Key learnings from the Microsoft tech summit

November 16, 2017

Microsoft Australia hosted their first annual summit in Sydney this week, which I was fortunate enough to attend. Microsoft’s mission to Empower every person and every organisation on the planet to achieve more is aspirational to say the least. Through listening to the key notes, attending the focused sessions and meeting with some of the global leaders, I’m now convinced that Microsoft may actually pull it off.

After recently adopting the Microsoft One Commercial Partner model, Clinic to Cloud has begun to realise the value of partnering with the ‘right’ tech giant in order to bring about true digital transformation.

I had the pleasure of sharing a lunch with Toni Townes-Whitley, Corporate Vice President, Industry and discuss the inflection of healthcare and technology in Australia. The case for digital transformation now comes with plenty of success stories and hard data. The top 100 companies that embraced digital transformation back in 2007 are now 1.8x more valuable in today's market.  In her keynote, Toni spoke about how her role was enabling digital leadership across key industry sectors, health being one. To transform an entire industry is no easy feat. Her advice: transform continuously, empower responsibly, create inclusively. In order to bring this vision to life, Microsoft has enabled industry subject matter experts, including Doctor Simon Kos, Chief Medical Officer and Doctor Nic Woods Executive, Health Industry, as well as a dedicated vertical approach to their market strategy.

Every company has the opportunity to embrace technology to improve the lives of others. Starting inside our own walls, business leaders today must dynamically evolve their style, approach and tool set to stay ahead. Empowered employees, engaged customers, optimised operations are the foundations to this success.

David Thodey, Chair of CSIRO & Jobs NSW, spoke to his experience with not only embracing customers, but deliberately striving to become a customer-centric organisation. Thodey counseled "The hardest and best thing you can do is to become a customer-centric organisation. Customer centricity, and truly listening to customers will keep you ahead - not accepting the status quo to be the catalyst to digital transformation - that’s the way to lead your business".

Empowered by smart technology, together we have the responsibility to transform the world to achieve more.

Our challenge as leaders in this digital age is to leverage the right technology, at the right time, in the right way, in order to better deliver:

1. Deep customer centricity: infusing the voice of our customer into the heart of our organisations.

2. A values and culture based environment: offering purpose and meaning to employees.

3. Constant innovation in process, approach, and technology: never accepting the status quo.

4. Transformation: inspired by true, industry-focused leadership.

Smart companies have the opportunity to be the catalyst for bringing digital transformation to entire industries. Challenges of geography, language and time are replaced with technology, artificial intelligence and machine learning.

Clinic to Cloud is proudly bringing about substantial digital transformation in healthcare using the Microsoft Azure platform. Our growth from zero to 1,000+ customers in only 24 months wouldn’t have been possible without the right technology ecosystem, and partner.

Toni Townes-Whitley asked, "What can you provide to 10million people in 2 years? Clinic to Cloud will deliver Smarter Healthcare.
