Change management

Ask any CEO or executive and they will probably tell you that, one of the most  challenging functions for any business is change management. Change creates  uncertainty and fear and as a result it makes many people uneasy. Many larger  company invest a great deal in change management and training and many often will  admit that it was one of the areas they under estimated when delivering a project.

Now take those challenges and add sick people into the mix and you get a cocktail of emotions that is not for the light hearted. It is also important to note that the sector is not accustomed to lots of change and especially fast change which makes it even more challenging.  Having said that change is inevitable and we live in the era of constant change and disruption.

How do we now make change less of a burden to the medical fraternity and their patients? What should change management look like in healthcare were the net effect on an immediate level is not only the clinicians and support staff but also a very sick person?

Here are some learnings from our experience to date and I am sure that my view may change in the next few months as more learnings come to light and I am also happy to take views here:

  • Find your internal champion
  • Get enough training
  • Follow the project plan and stick to it
  • Get buy in from everyone in the team or close to it
  • Keep the outcome in your sights, the end goal
  • Use OPR (Other People's resources) example consultants
  • Use the opportunity to improve your business and produce better outcomes

Change especially in the healthcare environment is a brave act but change is necessary and good for you if you embrace change.

We at Clinic to Cloud have started a change revolution and we have adopted change internally also and we understand that change is challenging however we love it.
